Hand-Cut Multimedia Collage.
Long inspired by Victorian photography, I started making collage cards that were sent to friends for holidays and special occasions. This process slowly evolved into the multimedia collage pieces I make today.
My investigations into Victorian photography led to my discovery of postmortem photography and the elaborate mourning rituals—including photo portraits of the departed—that accompanied the death of a loved one. Much of my work has been inspired by these photographs.
Using hand-cut found images arranged and glued on painted paper, I create narratives inspired by Victorian social rituals, postmortem photography practices, new-fangled industrial devices, children, and animals.
